I have been meaning to take photos of my new fabric before it became laundry, but I've been very busy, and the days I haven't been busy had been overcast and pissing rain; very bad light. So laundry it is.

Instead taking my own I shall post the store photos, a mini review of each piece, and what it's gonna (probably) become.

This is shaping up to be a long thread so mute me for a couple of hours if it's too much.

Without further ado here's my latest fabric haul!

Sewed a rudimentary (ugly) shopping bag with the new (old) sewing machine at lunch, just for practice, out of scrap material I have here that I had been using as a photo backdrop (but is now too worn and folded for that). I guess I need to try a pattern next time, LOL. Or I need to clone one. Also, shiny crispy photo backdrop material is a PITA, it's too slippery for the fabric advancement foot on the sewing machine. Anyway.... #sewing

@sewing I can't seem to get a picture without dogs today. It's another Persephone from Made for Mermaids. This time, I added an inch in length to both the skirt and ruffle. This one might be too long. I'm tired of sewing the pattern over and over but these dresses are the only thing I wear now, except for an occasional jeans and tee day.

I am standing in my back yard, on the grass. Behind me is a patio with furniture. I am wearing a strappy dress with sweetheart neckline and ruffled hem on the A line skirt, over a pale blue tee. The print on the dress is woodland animals (fox, deer, owl, squirrel, moths) and trees on a navy background

The thing about petticoats is that you can easily wear one for ten years and it's nice, and another ten if you don't care about it being a bit banged up, and it's underwear so you don't... But heck does it take bloody forever to make a cute one!
Here pictured: Me thinking I did this to myself.

A photo of Sini sitting down at her desk, behind a Husqvarna sewing machine, an ocean of white ruffle and lace filling up the entire foreground of the photo. Some twelve metres of it, to be exact. Her eyes are cast down, onto the bit being sewn, both hands on the sewing plate delicately guiding the strips of fabric together. Pretty sunlight streams in from a window on the right, and also behind her. She's wearing a fancy but cosy white linen shirt with lace details and big puffed sleeves narrowing down onto a simple cuff, round eyeglasses, small tiger's eye pendant earrings and a black, gray and tan headscarf with botanical print, in a sort of working class woman at home can't be bothered to do her hair style. Her expression is of smooth contained exasperation. A vase with artificial flowers and ginkgo leaf branches in the background.

Aha! Remembered I have a problem with a laptop bag around here, and I think that new industrial strength sewing machine is the solution! Shoulder strap attachment is ripping out of the bag. I wonder how you fix this. 🤔 #sewing

Meanwhile, in the petticoat: Just put the first tier of ruffles on the skirt body, will need to iron and finish the seam allowance still, but it looks quite petticoat-like! The tucks give me serotonin and the petticoat much body.
The placket is very minimal and still needs one small button, but yeah.

A photo of the first tier of ruffles of a petticoat laid out on an ironing board. There are two strips of insertion lace in it, and six rows of narrow tucks. The strips has been gathered onto a section of skirt not seen, but can be deduced to be hanging off the board since the ruffle already takes up all of it. All of the white fabric with the gathering and elaborate lace and tucks looks extremely petticoat-like, which is to say something reminiscent of something made in 1905 or so. Sini's pink hand holds onto one the ruffle, to allow it to fan out for better display. A pink iron awaits in the background.
Top of the skirt section, onto which all the tiers of the tiered petticoat go. Here, at the very centre back, is a little placket. The sheer thin white fabric is somewhat translucent and the lapped edges of the placket portions is a whiter white. There is one hand made buttonhole on the overlapping bit, and tiny gathers on the narrow waistband it is sewn into. Sini's pink hand proprietary on the skirt, declaring to the world that she made this, as she's quite pleased.

Beekeeping glove repair. My son's cheap Bezos Expo (Chinese import) beekeeping gloves lasted only one season, but he likes them. Big rip in the palm at the seam. Turns out this restored Singer 201 easily goes through tough dried leather and I was able to fix this one. #beekeeping #sewing
