#Scientists say they can calculate the cost of #oil giants’ role in #globalwarming
#Climate advocates hope this sort of model could result in court rulings that make polluters pay. The oil and gas industry contests the #science.
Collectively #greenhousegas #emissions from 111 #fossilfuel companies caused the world $28 trillion in damage from #extremeheat from 1991 to 2020, according to a paper published Wednesday in Nature.

Swathes of scientific data deletions are sweeping across #US government websites – with decades of #health, #climatechange and #extremeweather research at risk. Now, #scientists are racing to save their work before it's lost.
No one knows when the next alert or request to save a chunk of US government-held #climate data will come in. Such data, long available online, keeps getting taken down by US President Donald Trump's administration.

#WhiteHouse Proposal Could Gut #Climate Modeling the World Depends On
Now it is directly undermining the #science and research of #climatechange itself, in ways that #scientists say will have dangerous consequences.
Cuts to #NOAA, whose weather and climate research touches almost every facet of American life, are targeting a 57yr partnership between Princeton and #US government that produces what many consider world’s most advanced #climatemodeling & #forecasting systems.

#US #Scientists Flee Abroad as Research Funding Cuts Deeper

A trawl of job views and application data suggests jobseekers are looking abroad as the Trump administration’s cuts to science take hold.
Nature Careers science jobs platform show US scientists submitted 32% more applications for jobs abroad between January and March 2025 than during same period in 2024. At the same time, the number of US-based users browsing jobs abroad increased by 35%.

If you'd be interested in learning fascinating stuff about #snakes, I've got a treat for you. A very cool conversation between #scientists researching topics related to their wellbeing, personalities, and psychological development. The leading topic is about enclosures, but it is filled to the brim with cutting edge knowledge about snakes and their behaviour. I cannot recommend it enough.

Fair warning: it is 2 hours long

@F2erron

The popular narrative that #scientists will come up with conclusions that fit the funders needs does not happen in my experience.

Oil companies hired environmental scientists to look into global warming and they certainly did not get the answer they wanted.

I was hired on a project funded by Eli Lilly many years ago and they did not get the answer they were hoping for. They did appreciate the honesty and integrity, plus in depth discussions about why it didn't pan out as they thought. We did get further funding to see if it would be possible to get closer to their desired scenario, with the caveat that there were no guarantees. Unfortunately for them it still had issues and they eventually shelved it.

Have had many other dealings with commercial projects over many years and they have always appreciated honesty. Did convince one company that they would be wasting their money.

Certain that most people working in #science would do the same.

@Tarnport Not much happening in Norway this morning. Main top story & headline on national main news NRK is telling us you @Tarnport, will get more US company in France. Liked that doorshot

EDIT: As a matter of fact, 242 American researchers have applied for jobs at the University of Aix-Marseille. “This is a big discussion throughout Europe,” says the rector of the University of Oslo.
