The #ClimateCrisis fueled #ExtremeWeather is compounded by #Trump’s #TradeWar & the admin targeting federal programs & staff, leaving #farmers reeling & resigned to needing another #bailout.

“There’s a lot of uncertainty around & I hate to be used as a bargaining chip. I am definitely worried,” said Travis Johnson, who lost >1k acres of cotton, sorghum & corn after a year’s rain fell in 48 hrs in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) in TX last month, turning parched fields into lakes.

‘Shock to the system’: #farmers hit by #Trump’s #tariffs & cuts say they need another #bailout

With #ExtremeWeather & Trump’s #TradeWar, US farmers are reeling & resigned to needing more cash help

Farmers across the #UnitedStates say they could face financial ruin – unless there is a huge #taxpayer funded bail out to compensate for losses generated by Trump’s sweeping cuts & chaotic tariffs.

"The only parts of Europe that aren’t being boiled dry are being washed away in floods. The EU must urgently update its climate targets to reflect the scientific reality, and put a stop to new fossil fuel projects as a first step to a full phase-out." – Thomas Gelin, climate campaigner at Greenpeace EU

And why would Trump care about lobsters?

And more notes from the live chat with Dr. Daniel Swain (Weather West) on the chaos and destruction of NOAA and National Weather Services by DOGE and Trump Regime:

Dept of Defense will no longer include climate change in their plans.

If research funding is replaced by corporations replaces the funding, it will cause bias in the research.

No philanthropy can afford to fund to replace all the weather services throughout the USA.

Defunding the weather balloons means that data to predict a tornado or the landing location of a hurricane will be gone.

More notes from the live chat by Weather West (Dr. Daniel Swain) on the chaos being wrought upon the National Weather Service:

Dept of Commerce terminated an agreement with a university regarding weather/climate research stated "this cooperative agreement promotes exaggerated climate threats...promoting anxiety..."

A doc from the White House states that the proposed close the NOAA office that does and funds research on weather and oceanographic. NASA is targeted for larger cuts regarding planetary research. Many cooperative research centers will be closed. Proposed is the canceling the partnership between NASA and NOAA, which would end weather satellite updates.

A list of notes on the chaos in the NOAA from the Live Chat by Weather West (Dr. Daniel Swain):

Staff in the Sacramento NWS office is critically understaffed. Monterey office has lost people and are understaffed. Weather balloons to gather vital info twice a day are not being launched due to understaffing, which will degrade weather forecasting. In Canduca (sp?) Kentucky the building of the weather office cannot pay for backed up toilets and all maintenance has been fired. Plus, it forced staff to use an outside porta potty in an active hurricane warning. Hazardous wastes trained staff have been fired and now offices have been shut down due to no one being able to safely dispose of the waste. Some staff have been fired 3x with the firings and rehiring. US global change research program on observed and expected impact of climate change report--the company doing the report were fired, even though it was congressionally mandated.

Companies will still face pressure to manage for climate change, even as government rolls back US climate policy

As the federal government moves to eliminate U.S. #climate rules, companies still face pressure to be better stewards of the planet from their customers, investors, employees, local communities, lenders, insurers, global trading partners and many states.

Each of those groups knows it will face increasing costs from rising temperatures and #ExtremeWeather if corporations don't rein in their #GreenhouseGas #emissions.

Many companies will find that returning to past polluting ways isn't in their best interest. Over 60% of chief financial officers surveyed by global management firm #Kearney in December 2024 signaled that they intended to invest at least 2% of their revenue in #sustainability in 2025.
