Atelier-Welten #11 mit moki

moki ist bildende Künstlerin und lebt in Berlin. Sie beschäftigt sich vorwiegend mit Malerei und zeichnet nebenbei Comics, macht Kinderbücher und Skulpturen. moki veröffentlichte bei Reprodukt bereits 3 Graphic Novels: SUMPFLAND, KALEIDOSKOP und ihr Debüt die Silent Novel WANDERING GHOST. Sie ist Teil des Spring-kollektives. 2024 hat sie einen Dokumentarfilm über das seit über 20 Jahren bestehende Kollektiv gedreht. Ihre Bilder werden weltweit in Ausstellungen gezeigt und sind in Kunstsammlungen vertreten. Für ihre Veröffentlichungen wurde sie mehrfach ausgezeichnet und erhielt u.a. den Preis für das schönste deutsche Buch 2020 für DIE WUNDERSAMEN 12 zusammen mit der Autorin Rae Mariz, erschienen bei Reisedepeschen.

moki’s Atelier liegt im Dachgeschoss eines ehemals besetzen Hauses im Herzen Kreuzbergs. Es ist 11qm² groß und hat keine Heizung. Zurzeit arbeitet sie an Malereien für die Einzelausstellung IN THE BELLY OF THE BEAST, die im November 2025 in der Hamburger Galerie Feinkunst Krüger stattfinden wird. Sie umfasst schwarz-weiß Bilder die sich thematisch mit Machtgefällen und Gewalt auseinandersetzten. In ihren früheren Malereien sind Eskapismus und der Klimawandel vorherrschenden Themenschwerpunkte. Im Herbst 2024 erschien ihre 10 Jahre umfassende Monografie MÄANDER bei Hatje & Cantz. Das Kinderbuch SCHNEE wurde im selben Zeitraum von Rotopol veröffentlicht.

Tüftelt moki an neuen Comics, zeichnet sie vorwiegend an ihrem Schreibtisch zu Hause.

PAINTER by Walter Benjamin
The story comes from China, and tells of an old painter who invited friends to see his newest picture. This picture showed a park and a narrow footpath that ran along a stream and through a grove of trees, culminating at the door of a little cottage in the background. When the painter’s friends, however, looked around for the painter, they saw that he had left them—that he was in the picture. There, he followed the little path that led to the door, paused before it quite still, turned, smiled, and disappeared through the narrow opening.

on the painting you see the THE GAEWERN SLATE Mine in Ceredigion, Wales. it was once rich in slate, a purplish-gray rock sought for its beauty and durability. It was extracted between 1812 and 1960. Once humans had emptied the mine of everything they wanted, they filled it with everything they didn’t: broken washing machines, shot microwaves, and dozens of rusty old cars.
