What is the whole RIF endgame?

I want to know what the endgame is. The administration wants to fire or get rid of as many workers as possible. Got it. But what happens when social security checks come to a halt or banks start to collapse because all the regulation experts have left?My best guess is this is all a PR stunt, and after they declare "mission accomplished" they will go on a hiring spree. But then they'd have to pay people more or offer more incentives to new hires - because who would be crazy enough to accept an offer from this administration?

What happened to “go and work those productive private sector jobs?” Took DRP and was denied a job approval request.

I took the original DRP, and found a job a month later (in the same field). Emailed ti ethics to get approval and they said, no you can’t work there, conflict of interest. Why are they applying this old guidance to the new situation. We are not active government employees anymore, it is not the same as if someone who works for the government (has access to all systems, cases, contracts etc.). We can’t influence any outcomes, we are simply getting a severance over time instead of a lump sum.

Economic impact of RTO at my household level

So I started my full-time RTO, a long commute of five days a week, about 6 weeks ago. Before that, I was doing 2 or 3 days a week. I just got my monthly credit card statement. Despite the fact that I am spending more on gas and also buying more coffee instead of brewing my own at home, my expenses for the past 4 weeks were significantly less than any of my monthly expenses in the previous months as far back as I can remember. I was super surprised at first.Then I realized - These days, I am going out for happy hours or dinner a lot less because I am exhausted. I also did not do any weekend trip to the mall because I am exhausted. I know the DC mayor thought RTO would help the district economy, but as far as I can see on my credit card statement, it is the opposite. I wonder if this is just me or is a shared experience by many RTO'ers.

all the threats of privatization, forced cuts, and overall low morale for federal workers, you still work for Americans. I had a package lost via the Indianapolis hub for a month. That new, bigger facility was put together without any thought to increasing the workforce. There's been delivery issues since before Christmas. I finally broke down and put in a lost mail request. I literally had my package in 2 days.I have watched in horror what our government has done to our federal workforce. My heart hurts for each of you. I cant imagine going to work every day wondering if your job is next. Thank you for continuing to work for every day Americans.

RIF Announcement and I'm pissed

I took a job with the government because I'm disabled. Good insurance, work I was able to accomplish, set schedule. I thought it would be great. Then, election night happened, a month before my EOD date. Now, my department has been told to update our resumes by April 14th because an RIF will reduce our workforce by 75%. 75%. AFTER 5% took the DRP. I'm very upset. I need this job. But I'm queer and disabled, so I'm pretty much a DEI hire anywhere else... and we all know how that's been playing out. Only a few months in, and I'm already going to lose the job I was hoping I'd retire from.

How much money would be saved if we all just stayed remote?

Why is no one talking about this. I know the point is not to save money and to make our lives miserable, but if you're painting the picture of "efficiency" shouldn't this be a part of it. The overhead costs of rent space, inspections, water, electricity, gas, parking passes..someone smarter than me run the numbers. Not to mention the productivity would be HIGHER!Better service for the public, better employees, happier employees.
