Interestingly, the study found that incentivized reviews aren't more positive than non-incentivized ones. However, they are more elaborate—that is, longer. The discussion touched on both the analysis pipeline and the study’s methodological assumptions. Had an interesting discussion today.
In linguistics, when hiring a postdoc (with some teaching load), you can definitely ask for a trial lesson on, say, the basics of morphology for first-year BA students. If you hold a PhD in linguistics, regardless of your specialty, you should know enough about morphology to do this.
If we wanted to do this in #ComputationalHumanities (or #DigitalHumanities), what might be an equivalent?

I am delighted to announce that my data paper "Locations of Markets in English Market Towns, 1813: Constructing a dataset" has just been published (open-access!) in @ZfdG
This is a deep dive/behind the scenes look into the process and decisions that went into creating a GeoJSON data set of locations of markets, based on a list in a 19th century text.
It's also very fitting that this is announced first on Mastodon since this platform played a significant role in bringing my work to the attention of the editors.
The dataset itself is deposited with KCommons Works (@hello) and I've just used the editing feature to add the data paper as a related work with the "is documented by" relation.

ZenodoEmpfehlungen der AG Greening DH zum ressourcenschonenden Umgang mit ForschungsdatenEin nachhaltiges Forschungsdatenmanagement (FDM) ist Teil guter wissenschaftlicher Praxis. Es ermöglicht transparente Forschungsergebnisse und deren Wiederverwendung und hilft, Doppelarbeit und unnötigen Ressourcenverbrauch zu vermeiden. Gleichzeitig erfordert FDM selbst Ressourcen, weshalb eine sorgfältige Abwägung zwischen Transparenz, Nachnutzung und Aufwand nötig ist. Diese Empfehlungen unterstützen Forschende bei der Erstellung von Forschungsdatenmanagementplänen, um den ökologischen Fußabdruck von Daten, Hardware und Software zu reduzieren. Sie bieten konkrete Ansätze zu Formaten, Interoperabilität, Versionierung, Metadaten, Nutzungsszenarien, Speicherplatz und Langzeitarchivierung. Ziel ist es, ressourcen-schonende Lösungen zu fördern, ohne die Grundsätze des FDM zu gefährden. Das Wichtigste in Kürze Grünes Forschungsdatenmanagement in fünf Kernpunkten: 1. Nachnutzung maximieren: Datenformate und Software sollten so gewählt werden, dass Daten leicht wiederverwendet werden können. 2. Speicherplatz effizient nutzen: Versionierung, Komprimierung und gezielte Auswahl relevanter Daten verhindern unnötigen Ressourcenverbrauch. 3. Metadaten optimieren: Einheitliche Standards und durchdachte Metadaten erleichtern Auffindbarkeit und Wiederverwendung. 4. Veröffentlichung nachhaltig planen: Daten sollten möglichst in offenen Formaten und mit freien Lizenzen veröffentlicht werden. 5. Langzeitarchivierung bewusst steuern: Nur essenzielle Daten langfristig speichern und bestehende Infrastrukturen nutzen. Finale Version vom 30.4.2025, nach Open Peer Review.
