My new sticker order arrived. I am trying out TheStickyBrand.com, which had a promo to get 100 of these (about 3"x2") vinyl holographic stickers for $25.

I like the way they turned out. There are some other designs I'd like to have lots of. I will order more. These are destined to be given to my audio nerd friends (and former instructors, one of whom inspired the design).

Dad will be visiting town for a few days next week. His idea of cool is similar to mine; we won't be hitting the bars on Broadway, but I am trying to line up some studio tours and/or coffee with some audio people. Ideas and contacts gratefully welcomed.

Today on the Internet, I ran across someone referring to their resume as a CV, or a curriculum Vita. Though I have heard this terminology I’m really not sure what it means or where it comes from. I just had to chuckle, and then laugh out loud because these days, CV means control voltage in my world! Going to spend the day in a team mixing competition with two of my fellow recent Blackbird Academy grads up against teams from 4 or 5 of the local university and tech school audio programs. Should be fun. I am getting two t-shirts out of this.

With each diploma from the Blackbird Academy Professional School of Audio comes a Shure SM57.

There's a lesson there somewhere.

When bluetoothd starts to barf with cryptic messages in /var/log/syslog (which I constantly monitor on this machine) after I diagnosed horrificly low quality audio (in the flat side of the audio spectrum (which is balanced audio)) Is when I would rather have the message to be in the gracefull Norsk language with a **specific cause** for the corruption than the generic message the daemon spouted.

The fix was simple, I routed the audio as usual through an unbalanced tip/sleave cable eliminiting the BT tranceiver interface, which does introduce noise

This is the last week in the classroom for my studio engineering program. It's full of guest speakers and whatnot. Today we have a vocal producer coming in the morning, and in the afternoon George Massenburg. He's legendary in #ProAudio circles; among many other things, he invented parametric EQ.

Yesterday we got to video chat with Andrew Scheps. The day before, Ross Hogarth. We are getting many different perspectives on audio and mixing and music production.

producer left his cell phone on top of the $35,000 tube compressor and we got some hellacious noise in the record path when he got a text message

Got to visit several studios in Alabama on a field trip yesterday. Craig Alvin was incredibly generous with his time, space, and expertise, and let us poke around his studio and ask questions before walking us through his mixing process and some of the tools and tricks he uses.

Did a bit of mixing desk research. A normal domestic moggy could easily sit on a Yamaha DB3 but could curl up for a nap on an Allen & Heath SQ5. Tough choice
