@CCC Vielleicht sollten spätestens jetzt möglichst viele Leute ihre Kommunikationsstrukturen¹ dem öffentlichen Zugriff entziehen.

#Freenet / #Hyphanet kann dabei helfen, indem Nachrichten unter Freunden vertraulich werden und öffentliche Kommunikation über Pseudonyme läuft, die kaum auf reale Personen zurückgeführt werden können.

@ModernDayNTK actually we had to rename almost two years ago, 23 years after it started. The name is #Hyphanet now. Some background, if you want to look:

A takeaway — a lesson learned: if a project you contribute to has some structure with some board, make sure that the people with a say are in touch with development and have a stake in the success of the project.

Took us 18 months to pick up the pieces so we could create releases on all platforms again.

@geo @madeindex Freenet/Hyphanet's opennet mode is fundamentally broken (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyphanet#Vulnerabilities) and the project plainly admits it too (https://www.hyphanet.org/pages/help.html#wont-attack-x-break-hyphanets-anonymity) (onion/garlic routing and cover traffic would help).

Correlation attacks are pretty much the death knell for opennet and darknet mode has unreasonable trust requirements.

As for #I2P, it does have some cover traffic in a way, with its mixing tunnels. It'd be nice if the batching & delay TODO work was done though.

@cferdinandi Signal would already have helped the kid stay safe in this situation (so: please keep spreading Signal!). But remember that one of the supporters of Trump is Peter Thiel who owns Palantir.

The core product of Palantir uses metadata to find targets. You’ll want to get ready before that’s getting trained on people who annoy Trump.

If you run #Linux and want a safe haven to coordinate when bad comes to worse, you may want to install a #Freenet / #Hyphanet node ASAP:

Install Java and wget (e.g. sudo apt-get install openjdk-17-jdk wget)

The most useful help you can provide — especially for the coming storm — is to get Friends to run #Hyphanet and connect to you in friend-to-friend mode, so you can send friend-to-friend messages to them.

Those are one of the few ways of communications for which it is very hard to detect whether you communicated at all (protects metadata). They provide a confidential channel between you and your friends.

The #Windows installer for 1499 had a regression that caused it to lack dependencies. The reason was a mistake in updating the Gradle build file of the installer so the dependencies were not properly read from the main project.

This only affects new installs: auto-update should cause no problems.
Installing on #Linux/macOS/*nix is unaffected.

The Windows installer has been re-released and the downloads are
fixed.
