Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 gets the One UI 7 update again!

When Samsung paused the One UI 7 rollout for the 2024 flagships, we thought that it would take a week to shake out serious bugs that were discovered in the initial One UI 7 stable build.

We are excited to announce that starting from today, users can now download the One UI 7 update to their Galaxy Z Fold6 foldables again as Samsung has finally released this exciting version of One UI. Your Galaxy has now become more powerful, amazing, and gorgeous as One UI 7 brings more powerful features and a redesigned appearance consisting of a simple, impactful, and emotive design.

If you already have One UI 7 (BYCK), you’ll receive a very small hotfix update.

The firmware information states:

  • Galaxy Z Fold6: BYD9

You can see the overview of what One UI 7 brings in the above linked article at the bottom section. Meanwhile, you can see a two-minute video trailer for One UI 7 highlighting its biggest features here.

To obtain the update, perform the following steps:

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Navigate to Software Updates
  3. Tap on Download and Install
  4. Wait until you see One UI 7 at the top of the page, then tap on Download
  5. Wait for the download to complete, then tap on Install

After you perform the above steps, your foldable will be running One UI 7 based on Android 15, and you can enjoy its new features and with many improvements on place. This makes sure that your experience gets improved.

If you still didn’t get the update for your device, wait for a few days or a few weeks, then check for updates again. If you still see “Your software is up to date,” this means that the update didn’t reach your region yet.

Note that the update process may take 15 to 20 minutes, and this can vary from device to device. The download process may incur extra charges if you’re using the cellular network as the update size is around 5 GB, depending on the device, so we recommend downloading it through Wi-Fi. Never interrupt the update process in any way, or problems may occur. Make sure that your foldable gets charged before you initiate the installation process.

One UI 7 Beta 2 is out for Galaxy A55 5G!

After much anticipation, One UI 7 Beta 2 (with build ZYD3) has been released today for South Korea and for India that were eligible for this beta test. This means that everyone living in these countries can now try out the newer version of One UI 7 in its beta form!

Here are the official changelogs for this beta version of One UI 7 for the Galaxy A55:

  • Bugs that have been fixed
    • Fix poor visibility issue when checking Now bar Google sports
    • Fix an issue that cannot be attached to MMS emoticon on a particular route
    • Fix top notification icon to SIM shape when eSIM Push notification is received
  • Many other improvements

Did Samsung take down One UI 7 for the S24 series?

An hour ago, SamMobile claimed that the base Galaxy S24 model and the Galaxy S24+’s One UI 7 firmware, which was released on April 10th for Europe and on April 7th for Korea with build number BYCG, has been taken down. The Ultra models seemed to be unaffected, so we have investigated the contents of the article, and found that we may have reached to a conclusion that there may be problems with the Exynos 2400 chip, but nothing is confirmed yet.

So, we’ve started investigating the official Samsung update servers and found that:

  • Galaxy S24 Ultra
    • Models SM-S928N and SM-S928B still have the BYCG update
    • Models SM-S928U and SM-S928U1 still have the BYCH update
  • Galaxy S24+
    • Models SM-S926N and SM-S926B have the AYB6 update now; there is no longer the BYCG update
    • Models SM-S926U and SM-S926U1 still have the BYCH update
  • Galaxy S24
    • Models SM-S921N and SM-S921B have the AYB6 update now; there is no longer the BYCG update
    • Models SM-S921U and SM-S921U1 still have the BYCH update

The post-release test firmware at the time of the incident is BYD6.

We’ve gone deeper to check to see if the foldables, which are the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6, were too affected by this problem, and it seems that the issue didn’t affect them; it only affected the Galaxy S24 series except the Ultra model.

  • Galaxy Z Fold6
    • Models SM-F956N and SM-F956B still have the BYCK update
    • Models SM-F956U and SM-F956U1 still have the BYCK update
  • Galaxy Z Flip6
    • Models SM-F741N and SM-F741B still have the BYCJ update
    • Models SM-F741U and SM-F741U1 still have the BYCK update

So, with our confirmation that there is no problem with the foldables and with the Galaxy S24 Ultra, this issue is isolated to all base Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ models with the Exynos 2400 chips in it. The exact reason as to why is unknown, as Samsung plans to start the wider rollout to the Galaxy S24 series in other countries on April 14th, but we fear that this may actually cause delays for the global rollout.

So, if you have the affected models and you haven’t updated to One UI 7 yet, you can’t update your phone now.

Don’t install One UI 7 before switching away from SwiftKey!

If you’re using SwiftKey and you’re going to install One UI 7 on your phone as soon as it rolls out to your country, then… STOP!

Why? Because once you install One UI 7 while using the SwiftKey keyboard, and you’ve set your phone to lock with a password, you will never be able to get back to your phone again. That’s due to the keyboard not showing the Enter button because it’s hidden under the navigation bar. The blank areas in the navigation bar are untouchable, so this means that your phone will be rendered useless unless you either factory reset your device or try to perform a workaround.

Microsoft has fixed the problem and released the new version of SwiftKey. This has affected all Galaxy S25 phones and any other phones that run One UI 7. Consider updating SwiftKey and switching to Samsung Keyboard before you initiate the update. After the update, switch back to SwiftKey after unlocking your phone.

When will you get the One UI 7 update?

Samsung has just started their phased rollout of the One UI 7 update starting from all Galaxy S24, Z Fold/Flip 6, and Z Fold Special Edition devices in Korea. This was right after the Beta programs for this location have already been closed as seen in the following recruitment posts:

People in regions other than Korea were anticipating the One UI 7 update being released to their flagship devices, while the rollout didn’t start in those regions yet. Before the One UI 7 release date, people had speculated that Korea and other regions would be getting the update on April 7th.

In Canada, Telus has published a list of Galaxy flagships devices that will be updated to One UI 7 in approximately April 11th. At the beginning of the page, this carrier warned that those dates were approximate and that they could change.

In the US, the beta program for those three flagships didn’t end yet, and the local One UI Beta Team has notified users that there is “no official schedule has been confirmed by Samsung at this time” for the US or other regions. Additionally, the team has confirmed that “any date being circulated online (including April 10th) is still considered speculative at this time,” but they notified users that the initial rollout is expected to begin locally starting April 10th.

The initial rollout started in Korea, because Samsung in some cases initiate the rollout there as part of the phased rollout, which began in April 7th. This is for Samsung to gather early feedback from users who get to try out the stable version in case there are unexpected bugs that might prevent the rollout from completing globally. As feedback is analyzed, the stable version of One UI 7 will be available in regions other than Korea soon.

If you’re waiting for One UI 7, be patient as Samsung is working hard to ensure that there are no problems during the phased rollout. You’ll be notified about the update schedule in your area via Samsung Members. To check for updates, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Navigate to Software update
  3. Tap on Download and Install
  4. You should be able to see the update information. Verify the version with your device model posted above.
  5. Click on Download, let it download, and click on Install. Make sure that you download the update through Wi-Fi.

This update could take more than 15 minutes to install, depending on the device. Make sure that you have the phone charged fully before initiating the update process to avoid interruptions. Back up your data to your PC, the cloud, or any other device in case the update went wrong. Don’t interrupt the update process, or you’ll experience problems later.
