I do like #Mastodon. It’s everything I hoped #Twitter would be. Let’s hope it stays that way. Unlike Twitter, the probability of Mastodon remaining civilised is relatively high #socialmedia
@alexproe Especially since I don't see anyone around likely to turn it into a Nazi propaganda channel.
@Eetschrijver The way #Mastodon is organised makes this very hard - probably not impossible, though.
@alexproe I guess any communications channel could potentially be weaponized. But in the case of Mastodon, that would be pretty tough.
@Eetschrijver Any channel can be but not all channels have the same society distorting visibility as ex Twitter and FB. The ownership/control of such channels makes a difference too.
@alexproe That's what I mean. You couldn't weaponize ALL of Mastodon. There are a number of pretty poisonous instances (since anyone can set one up to their own taste or distaste), but those usually get blocked by bona fide instances. Unless you manage to infiltrate the mainstream ones, you won't get far. And infiltrating the mainstream instances is going to be one tough challenge. By the time that happens, the world's well lost.
@alexproe @Eetschrijver there are MANY different types of instances.
You just happen to be on an instance that blocks those other types.
Instance admins have to always be on the lookout for new instances that go against their instances rules so they can block them.
That's why it's always good to report rule-breaking posts whenever you come across them. Mastodon doesn't have automated moderation. If an admin doesn't see it, it can't be moderated.
