@Merovius Not uncommon on Wikipedia, where various editors add facts over time, sometimes without reading the existing page too closely.

I found this EU page rmis.jrc.ec.europa.eu/rmp/Dysp which gives a 2021 figure of 3126 tons produced, 40% of which was from China, 31% from Myanmar, and 20% from Australia.

Do I have to look at & update all of the rare-earth pages now? 😨 Maybe tomorrow!

Small personal sites, Codeberg, Gnome,... and now Wikipedia: "How crawlers impact the operations of the Wikimedia projects"

All this LLMs aka AI crap is killing the WWW more effectively than trackers, ads and other spyware (Not to mention the impact on the physical world). Maybe it's time for people to think it twice before praising AI just for the sake of entering into the hype and look cool.

@yora Oh god, this led me to this awful Wikipedia article:

Not only is it way too long, it also constantly uses GenAI and NPC behaviour as "AI" interchangeably, as if it was the same technology!

It's also, despite being a protected article, full of editing mistakes that are usually not allowed on #Wikipedia at all.

Like completely unsourced sections on how GenAI can change video games forever or nebulous mentions of "recent" events.
