JanPV<p>In 2006, I was made redundant due to unending erosion of the UK university sector. </p><p>People's response to this was odd. First, most colleagues avoid you like the plague. They don't want to be associated with someone who's been targeted for eviction. Or they don't know what to say. Or both.</p><p>Two decades later, whenever I meet someone from that place, they seem to believe - hope even - that I ended up in a cardboard box.
