mastodon uno admin Harald Kliems<p>Following up yesterday's post, I figured the <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/MadisonWI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MadisonWI</span></a> 3D data viz was worth a short blog post with code. <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/rayshader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rayshader</span></a> is very powerful, but also has a steep initial learning curve. Harald Kliems<p>It's a rainy Sunday, and so I spent a lot of time futzing around with a high-quality version of the <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/MadisonWI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MadisonWI</span></a> DSM 3D render. 5000x5000px, 128 samples in <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Rayshader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Rayshader</span></a>. This was about as large as I could get it without crashing <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/RStats" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RStats</span></a>. <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/DataViz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DataViz</span></a></p>

Add some aerial photo data from the county (<a href="https://gis-countyofdane.opendata.arcgis.com/pages/imagery-download" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">gis-countyofdane.opendata.arcg</span><span class="invisible">is.com/pages/imagery-download</span></a>) and you can make even more pretty things. I'm happy enough with my base map elements that I started learning a bit about controlling the animation. Rendering hundreds of frames takes a long time, and so I needed to reduce the level of detail in order to be able to fine tune the various parameters.
