#pihole

Stuff a #Pihole in your #router because your #browser is about to betray you
You could be forgiven for feeling #webbrowser suppliers are actively working to make us trust them less.
#Mozilla bought an #ad company; this month, removed its promise not to sell your info.

Mozilla sells #ads, #Google limits blocking-time for stricter measures
Pi-hole takes over as your network name server, and silently redirects all web requests to known ad-server addresses to a #DNS sinkhole.

after toying around with #pihole a bit, I now have the otter.den domain for all my internal stuff. and my smart tv has almost 20k blocked requests, while the second most has 500. and that in 2 days...

I recently changed to a fritz box router and pinole has decided not to work anymore...

Anyone got any ideas? I can access the web interface but DND doesn't work from at least some of my devices...

I'll probs be changing my pis which host all my services to use k3s soon so will probs reinstall OS then, in case that makes any difference.

The new router did change my gateway btw, I think all the devices use the correct one now though.

I've run a pair of machines running a network-level adblocker (Pi-Hole) and a DNS resolver (unbound) for years.

Highly recommended if you fancy a small project (or a bigger project, depending on how familiar you are with Linux, networking etc.).

Definitely worth doing in pairs rather than one machine, IMHO, so that you can take one down (or have one fail) and still have DNS working to help you fix it. I've used a mix of Raspberry Pis and virtual machines.

Discussione continua

#BloqueLaPub !!!

it seems like those two domains, that are disabled in the screenshot, are the main sources that the fireTV checks at boot to ensure that it is connected to the internet.

If they are blocked, it will assume that it is disconnected and won't let you use any apps (there is a workaround going through Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications, but its not convenient)

Just wondering if the responses of those sources could be mocked locally 😆
