Defective by Design<p>"But think about the artists!" is a favorite refrain of so-called "intellectual property" enthusiasts (aka corporations.) Hear from one <a href="https://hostux.social/tags/DefectiveByDesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DefectiveByDesign</span></a> (DBD) guest writer and musician about how <a href="https://hostux.social/tags/DRM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DRM</span></a> totally cramped his style: <a href="https://u.fsf.org/1rx" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">u.fsf.org/1rx</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> <a href="https://hostux.social/tags/EndDRM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EndDRM</span></a> <a href="https://hostux.social/tags/Music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Music</span></a></p>
Benjamin<p>Just finished setting up a Nintendo family account for wife, two kids and me, and move stuff from a Switch Lite to the wife's new Switch OLED.</p><p>Once again reminded why I prefer physical to digital.</p><p>SItuation: We have two digital copies of Animal Crossing, once on my account, once on my wife's. I moved her's from the Lite to the OLED. Now my daughter ("K2") is not allowed to play it on the OLED, despite it not running on the Lite.<br>I had to de-register the Lite as wife's "Primary" console, and register the OLED as that for K2 to be allowed to play it there. But now K2 is not allowed to play it on the Lite. If I had a physical cartridge, I could just swap it between the two consoles.</p><p>Well, good thing I _DID_ order a physical cartridge as well with the OLED. So now K2 is allowed to play on the Lite with the cartridge installed.</p><p>"Digital" cartridges are a step in the right direction, but Ninty still has a long way to go here to be on par with Steam Family Sharing.</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/Nintendo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Nintendo</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/DRM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DRM</span></a></p>
