‘Hands Off!’ protest in #Berkeley denounces Trump's power grab
https://www.berkeleyside.org/2025/04/05/hands-off-protest-berkeley-donald-trump-elon-musk The photo at the top includes a rainbow banner from Good Shepherd #Episcopal Church in Berkeley. I'm sure the protest was dwarfed by the ones in Oakland and SF but there were a lot of people there!

"Roger Studley, founder and community manager of #Berkeley #Moshav, said the idea has been in development for more than a decade. He was first introduced to the concept of #cohousing while in graduate school at #UCBerkeley, around the same time he was reconnecting with his #Jewish roots after years of distance from #Judaism.
As Studley deepened his involvement in Jewish life, he began to imagine a blending of these two ideas. The result was the formation of #BerkeleyMoshav — a community where Jewish life will be one aspect of daily living, but where people of all backgrounds are welcome, he said."
1. My husband went w/ me to his first #TeslaTakedown protest & we met someone who was also there for the first time.
2. One of the organizers at the #TeslaTakedown protest noticed my #Moe's bookbag, told me he went to Berkeley, majored in philosophy, and #Spinoza was his favorite, and he talked about the relevance of Spinoza to today's crumbling world.
3. 3 people said they liked my T-shirt, including a woman at H Mart.

"While the Haskell Wong Endowment for Disability Studies is the first endowed fund to benefit the Disability Studies Program overall, it is the second endowed gift to advance disability studies on campus. Cultural anthropologist Karen Nakamura holds the Robert and Colleen Haas Distinguished Chair in Disability Studies, an endowed faculty position. The Haskell Wong family hopes to eventually convert their endowment into an Administrative Chair for Disability Studies, which would provide additional funds to support teaching, research, programmatic, and service activities for the program and its students."
Would be nice if Cal itself would act on the Demandifesto Action Steps...studying disability activism is important, but RESPONDING positively to disability activism even more so.

It's #WorldPoetryDay. What poem would you recommend that we read? Mine is Allen Ginsberg's, "A Supermarket in California." Here's a few lines & a link to the whole poem:
I saw you, Walt Whitman, childless, lonely old grubber, poking among the meats in the refrigerator and eyeing the grocery boys.
I heard you asking questions of each: Who killed the pork chops? What price bananas? Are you my Angel?

#3GoodThings (getting harder with each passing day)
1. Official 36th anniversary with my husband but we met in #Berkeley, 1982.
2. Did a grief support group for #HFC. Although my computer crashed and when it came back to life I had no video, I think it went well. Laughter. Tears. As the title of the grief group says, "Keeping Each Other Company: #Caregiving and #Grief." We did that.
3. Finished grading student papers and submitted grades. Some truly spectacular essays on #EdgarAllanPoe.
