Robert KingettCould be a PSA, not sure, but if you access OneDrive via WebDav like I do, if you can't open simple text files anymore even though you have a decent connection, I fear something is messing up with their servers. No, I'm not using their terrible syncing app. WebDav works great for me! Well, used to anyway. With WebDAV you can easily access data in the Hubzilla/streams cloud including your private music collection and use it on all kinds of end devices. If you have activated WebDAV on your desktop PC, you can simply drag and drop music files stored in the cloud into locally installed audio players such as #<a class="" href="https://im.allmendenetz.de/search?tag=VLC" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">VLC</a> #^<a class="" href="https://www.videolan.org" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://www.videolan.org</a> or #<a class="" href="https://im.allmendenetz.de/search?tag=clementine" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">clementine</a> #^<a class="" href="https://www.clementine-player.org/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://www.clementine-player.org/</a> via the file browser and play them. Playlists can of course also be created in this way. Playing .m3u8 playlists directly from the cloud should also be possible in the web browser with the appropriate plugins, but I have not yet been able to get this to work. For streaming audio files to the smartphone, there are apps that can also do this in combination with WebDAV clouds. I use the app carta for this on my android phone #^<a class="" href="https://github.com/innomatica/carta/releases" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://github.com/innomatica/carta/releases</a> #^<a class="" href="https://innomatica.github.io/carta/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://innomatica.github.io/carta/</a> This App not only allows you to catalog and play audio files from the Internet Archive site, but also very easily the private music file collection from your own cloud. ... Spotify & Co not necessary. Streaming also has many disadvantages. I always have music that is important to me with me on my phone as stored data ... but via the WebDAV Hubzilla/streams cloud you can now share audio files for streaming with your family or with friends you really trust. Everyone just needs to know and use the WebDAV credentials. That is why as already mentioned in other posts, you can't really share things in an anonymous network via WebDAV. Now that we know some use cases with WebDAV, in the next post I will come to the special protocol CalDAV with which event and calendar data can be exchanged between different end devices. With WebDAV you can manage your data/files and exchange them to all your different devices. Your Hubzilla/streams channel can take over the server part here. Since this is done by credentials you do not want to share this all will work just for you - you can´t really share to your friends and contacts by WebDAV. But once the data and files are stored in your Hubzilla/streams channel you can of cause share them with other tools and by ZOT/Nomad and AP. The most common and well known use of WebDAV is to mount a cloud account/drive to your desktop PC. Some times i can be a bit tricky to get it work but once it is set up you see your cloud storage popping up just like an other hart drive you have mounted to your PC and you can easily copy and exchange files by drag and drop. Once you have the files in your Hubzilla/streams cloud you can use the files for all kind of things. You can publish them, if you want just to certain groups or speziell Fediverse contacts, or keep them privat as your privat archive or backup in the cloud. It is just incredible that we have this functionality in Hubzilla/streams which makes your account on a Hubzilla/streasm server so much more worth and useful. So invest some time and try to set up your WebDAV connection. This way you extend your local storage you have on your phone with the the Hubzilla/streams cloud. If you save private files /images in a Hubzilla/streams cloud folder keep in mind to protect the folder by the implemented Access Control System with a setting link "only me" to keep it a way from public eyes. Keep in mind also that since the files are not encrypted everybody who as root access to the server - usually this would be just the Admin of a server - could see your files if he/she really wants to - So like almost always - you have to trust the admin of your server. In the next post i will show you an App which works with WebDAV and secure encryption so the Admin is out of the game in this respect.
