It’s one of our various Italian traditions, in this case attributed to my paternal grandmother’s ancestors’ region, because she was born on New Year’s Eve. (I also interned in the <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Langhe" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Langhe</span></a> & <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Roero" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Roero</span></a> region of Piemonte, aside from Florence).</p><p>The recipe includes red wine, like <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Barolo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Barolo</span></a>, plus a touch of <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/chocolate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>chocolate</span></a>, vegetables for the stock that’s reduced to a rich sauce, as well as a small amount of honey, vinegar, tomato sauce, pepper, and juniper berries.</p><p>Lentils include a basic soffritto, pepperoncino, rosemary, and some of the lamb sauce. </p><p><a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Wine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Wine</span></a> is a <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/California" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>California</span></a> vintage 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon from the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation by our local Mount Eden Vineyards of Saratoga here in County of Santa Clara, California, one of the smaller cities surrounding San Jose. </p><p><a href="https://sfba.social/tags/2025newyear" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>2025newyear</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/NewYearsDay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NewYearsDay</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/food" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>food</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/winter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>winter</span></a>.</p>
