Recording vocals in my untreated studio. I did an A-B comparison between an NT1-A and an SM58. The SM58 sounded better to my ears for my voice for this song. It's a great little mic, isn't it?

I was recording some acoustic guitar the other day. Nothing complicated, but listening back now, wow, I am crap. There's nowhere to hide with a clean acoustic so working on my technique has been shifted way up my priority list. It wasn't even on the list, but you know...
Some days I'm blissfully unconcerned by my lack of music production knowledge, experience and ability as I charge headlong from one project to another.
Other days it sucks, and I'm overcome with frustration and embarrassment at current and past attempts to mix a song.
Lately it just sucks.
You know how it is when you finally get some quiet time at home and start recording some vocals and acoustic stuff, and someone decides it's time to get the chainsaw out...

Hier ist also ein kleiner Teaser: Das Intro meines neuen Songs "Shout out praises".
Gestern die Zeit genutzt und an einem neuen Song gearbeitet. Und wieder mal sind die Vocals der Endgegner beim Mixing. Zu dünn und laut der mit mir verheirateten Qualitätssicherung hapert es auch an der Sprachverständlichkeit. Da muss ich wohl noch mal ran.

Here is another snippet of the song I've been working on.
The bass and guitar are played by yours truly. They are DI into Amplitube5, with some additional compression and EQ. The organ and strings are programmed with zero humanization. I'll record those with a MIDI controller after I'm done with the guitars (still in progress). The drums are the same as I shared previously.
Making music - trying to cover a song with some stretched-out fretting (3-7th fret)... and it's hard keeping the G string ringing.
I blew off recording last week, and it feels like I may blow it off again.
I don't know whether I should just find something easy to play.
I often try stuff that's hard for me, and do a version with many mistakes, rather than play something easier, with fewer mistakes.
