Of course, the nisse belongs to Christmas:
"It is not too long ago that a woman in Fjone in Nissedal took out some butter porridge and beer for the nisses every Christmas Eve. She put it by a linden tree down in the field. In the morning the dish was empty and upturned. Her husband could not tolerate this ritual and asked his wife to stop it, but that did no good. So one Christmas Eve he took his axe and went down to fell the tree. But he had hewed no more than three strokes before the nisse came, grabbed him, and thoroughly beat him up."
