So, what did "America" really vote for? (Yes, I know what the election result was. I'm making a larger point about voting and how effective it is in capturing the will of the people)
@TCatInReality This is how democracy dies. That 90 million did not vote is worrying but very common nowadays not just in the US. Problem is that voting makes little difference. Not voting may make a difference but not positively! @GottaLaff

Agreed.
My main take on the 2024 election is that it was a successful propaganda op that led 78M to think that a vote for #CriminalGrandpa was remotely sensible.
Disinformation is my # 1 worry.
@TCatInReality @alexproe @GottaLaff I’ blue to the bone and and I’ve voted in every election since I was 18. I think I’m beginning to under stand why people don’t vote. Nothing really changes. If the Dems are in control, the GOP blocks any initiative. A real budget hasn’t been passed in over a decade. The two-tier justice system is becoming more and more evident ever day. When someone is murdered in cold blood in broad daylight, the country cheers for the killer. I could go on and on. The bottom line is “why vote” when nothing changes except for the worse?

My go to line is "Voting for the lesser of two evils is how you get LESS evil"
But GOP obstruction is a major issue. But somehow, that never is never framed as a reason to vote them out.

@a Problem is, they are not riding on any horse. The politicians have brought about this situation by exploiting democracy to their own ends. The situation they have brought about is nightmarish. Maybe everyone will learn a lesson about the value of not manipulating democracy. Doubt it though. If you think American democracy depends on "leaders" giving you the right candidates, then you don't understand the very basis of self-governance.
There's a lot of "bad guys" to blame, but ultimately it's an American public too distracted with angertainment and willing to screw others to get ahead who allowed the oligarchy to rise again these past 40-50 years.
I'm nor wasting any more time on this.

I have never not voted! It's a too important responsibility even when the system needs reform

How many were not counted for stupid or malicious excuses like 'hanging chads'
Boxes were set aflame, people were intimidated, rolls were purged, polls were limited in 'certain areas'.
Should have had international observers to monitor these elections.
